During my school tour in Southern Illinois, one of the schools I spoke at was the Longfellow Elementary School. I gave students, grades k-5, the Live Out Loud Charity speech covering topics of anti-bullying, how to make your dreams come true, and the importance of education. My speech was recorded by Fox 23, The Spiel and then followed up with an interview that included myself, a high school teen Ashley, the Longfellow social worker, and the hosts of The Spiel: Angi and Julie. This show aired LIVE on Fox 23 and is available online. I was able to mentor the teen seen on the show and I was able to share two organizations I truly believe in. One is the national hotline for suicide prevention: 800. 273. Talk and the other is a wonderful mentoring site wwww.powertochange.org Both of these resources were shared on Fox 23. The purpose of Live Out Loud Charity is to prevent suicide and to act as a referral source for existing organizations and resources that help. I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to Angi and Julie of The Spiel, thank you to Elizabeth Shore for connecting me with the Longfellow school, thank you to the Principal of Longfellow Elementary School, Mike Horn, thank you to Derek Tokarzewski for being the photographer, and most importantly thank you to the Miss Southern Illinois pageant director, Judy Sims.
